One of the most common pressure cooker recipes around is for Hard Boiled Eggs. I’ll be honest with you, cooking hard boiled eggs just doesn’t seem like it could get any easier than cooking them on the stove. Why is everyone going crazy for pressure cooker hard boiled eggs?

I needed to find out for myself. With so many options for cook times, I thought I’d start out with the most common one. 5-5-5. What the heck does that mean? Cook on high pressure for 5 minutes, natural release for 5 minutes and then cool in an ice bath for 5 minutes. Seems easy enough!

I decided to give it a go. And, let me tell you….I was pleasantly surprised! The time to cook the eggs didn’t seem much different than on the stove, But, and this is a HUGE BUT! The eggs peeled like I’ve never seen before! OMG! The shell literally just slid right off. This, in itself is why you should be pressure cooking your hard boiled eggs. Game changer!!

What can I say! PERFECT!

Hi this may be a silly question but what do you mean by natural release ? Canโt wait to try this!! I always under or overcook my eggs
TheTastyTravelers says
When you naturally release the pressure, you do nothing after the timer has beeped. Don’t move the valve. Just let the Ninja Foodi sit there and let the pressure release for a couple of minutes on its own. For this recipe, do nothing for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, move the valve to the vent position and release all remaining pressure.

Iโm new to the ninja 9 in 1 but after Iโve pressure cooked mine goes onto โkeep warmโ is this right? Will it still naturally release even thou itโs in keep warm mode ?
Thanks
Lauren Cardona says
When it goes into “keep warm” it is basically releasing the pressure naturally. Keep an eye on the timer, as it counts up, that’s how long it’s been naturally releasing for.
Raeanne says
Natural release is simply don’t do anything but wait after the timer chimes, in this case 5 minutes. Usually, you can just open the lid, but you may still need to release some pressure to open it.
Dane says
Natural release means you do not turn the pressure release knob until the timer counts up to 5 minutes after it has finished cooking. There will be a lot less steam if any at all when you do it at this point. A full natural release would have the red button fall without ever twisting the knob.

HI! Being brand new to the Foodie XL I did not quite understand that it would take the pressure over 15 minutes before it would start cooking! Therefore, it actually took over half an hour to complete, not 15 minutes total as the recipe shows. I pretty much have the same result with boiling water, adding eggs, ice bathing, then peeling. It may have been a tiny bit easier to peel.
Rachel says
It may have taken just as long as cooking on the stove, but I think it was way easier, you donโt have to watch and wait for the water to boil, then time it, and you can cook more eggs at a time which is good for a large family. I have never peeled a dozen eggs as fast as I did, and every egg was cooked perfect. I will never boil eggs again on my stove
TheTastyTravelers says
Hi Rachel- I’m glad your eggs came out perfectly! I agree with you- peeling eggs has never been easier! ๐
Dane says
Great hack is to add hot water, this will help the cooker pressurize much quicker cutting down time a lot!
TheTastyTravelers says
Hi Dane- I see a lot of folks using hot water instead of cold to speed up the process. I would just be careful when doing that as most recipes take into consideration the time that the pot/water takes to heat up and get up to pressure in the instructions and timings. If you use hot water, the cooking time will be lower and whatever is in the pot may not be cooked all the way. If using hot water instead of cold, you may need to add a couple of minutes to the pressure cook time, depending on what you are cooking.

This recipe is absolutely incredible! The eggs peeled perfectly and Iโve never had a hard boiled egg that wasnโt overcooked!! This is only the 2nd thing Iโve made in my Ninja Foodi since I just bought it, but so far I am amazed!
Jeanne Kramer says
Tried this with a dozen eggs this afternoon. Just as the recipient said. The eggs came out perfectly and pealed easily. Tasted great ๐
Linda says
Thank you for posting this. I followed the Ninja directions and was disappointed in how they were on the under-cooked side. Ninja says to pressure for 4 minutes and do quick release. Next time I’ll do this method. Thanks.
TheTastyTravelers says
Hi Linda. Hard-boiled eggs can be a little tricky. We have found that the 5-5-5 method in our recipe works great almost every time. ๐ 4 minutes would give you a bit of a runnier yolk. Let us know if you try our method and how they turn out.
Amanda Horvath says
I have found that the 5-5-5 method works the best every time. They come out perfect. That’s the only way I make them now.
TheTastyTravelers says
I totally agree! 5-5-5 is perfect every time! ๐
Gisela says
I followed the 5-5-5 instructions and they turned out perfect, thank you for posting.

Oh my goodness! I’ve never peeled a dozen eggs so effortlessly in my life and in my 75 years, I’ve peeled a bunch! Only one egg was ornery (there always has to be one in the bunch, right?) The taste is amazing, no rubbery texture and no green edges.
We are new to the Ninja Foodi experience, but we’re taking baby steps, and haven’t had a bad experience yet.
Thank you so much. I have already bookmarked your website.
Happy Traveling!
TheTastyTravelers says
Hi Joyce! I’m so glad that your hard-boiled eggs turned out great!! We will never cook eggs on the stove again since they peel so well from the Ninja! ๐ Have a great day!

I ain’t no cook but I am learning. This worked out great(next time I will heat the water for less prep time). The eggs were perfect and a lot easier to peel. Just as it said.
Thanks very much
