One of the most common pressure cooker recipes around is for Hard Boiled Eggs. I’ll be honest with you, cooking hard boiled eggs just doesn’t seem like it could get any easier than cooking them on the stove. Why is everyone going crazy for pressure cooker hard boiled eggs?

I needed to find out for myself. With so many options for cook times, I thought I’d start out with the most common one. 5-5-5. What the heck does that mean? Cook on high pressure for 5 minutes, natural release for 5 minutes and then cool in an ice bath for 5 minutes. Seems easy enough!

I decided to give it a go. And, let me tell you….I was pleasantly surprised! The time to cook the eggs didn’t seem much different than on the stove, But, and this is a HUGE BUT! The eggs peeled like I’ve never seen before! OMG! The shell literally just slid right off. This, in itself is why you should be pressure cooking your hard boiled eggs. Game changer!!

Big question ? To use the rack or not?
TheTastyTravelers says
I use the short rack, silicone trivet, or a steamer basket.
Tomi says
I did the 5-5-5 and my yolks were a little green around the edge. They were easy to peel I’ll give you that. Would you cut down a minute on cooking or a minute or two on release?
TheTastyTravelers says
Hi Tomi- If your eggs are coming out with green around the yolk, they are overcooked a little bit. I would switch to 4-5-5 and see if that works. Pressure cook for 4 minutes instead of 5.

I found them to come out perfect with no green on the yolk and they peeled easier than ever. I will only make them with this method from now on.

Out of all the dozens of methods we’ve tried for hard-boiling — and PEELING — eggs, this is by far the best of them. My first round with this method using the racks that came with my Ninja was so successful I had to buy an Egg Steamer Rack to assist with egg orientation and quantity. My wife — who has tried vinegar water, salt water, steaming, microwave specialty items, boil-and-rest, and all those other methods was completely blown away by the 5-5-5 method. A dozen eggs — older and fresh — peeled perfectly for her in less than 30 seconds each. We will never again use another method. Thank you very much!

Iโm so glad to hear this!!! Yes! Perfectโฆeasy to peel eggs every time! Iโm glad it worked so well and now your wife has an easy way to get great hard boiled eggs with less hassle. :). Thanks for your awesome comment!
Linda says
The eggs came out perfectly. I was able to take care of some other chores while the Ninja did it thing. Peeling was a dream.
TheTastyTravelers says
Woo Hoo! I’m so glad to hear that they came out perfectly! And yes….peeling is a dream with this method! I don’t know why they peel so easily, but they do and that alone makes this method #1 in my book! ๐

Does cooking time & amount of water differ if you are using medium, large, or jumbo eggs?
TheTastyTravelers says
It shouldn’t matter much. I have used large, extra large and, jumbo eggs and they have all turned out great! Medium eggs might need a little less time. I would reduce the natural release time by a minute if you are using medium eggs. The water amount should stay the same regardless of the size of the eggs.
Judy Gotthoffer says
Me too, just like everyone else, perfect, easy peeling hard boiled eggs.
Thanks

This didnโt work any better than boiling them. Four eggs cracked. Same as boiling on stove. Disappointing!
