Check out my recipe for making tender and juicy Ninja Foodi Grill Red Pepper Lime Bell Peppers!

Bell peppers are the perfect side dish for any meal. You can use any color bell pepper, red, yellow, green, or orange for this recipe. I like to mix it up and use one of each but you can use any color that you like. Bell peppers are super easy to make if you use your Ninja Foodi Grill!

    ninja foodi grill/griddle

This recipe was made using the Ninja® Foodi® Smart XL Pro Grill & Griddle, but any Ninja Foodi Grill can be used for this recipe.

Bell peppers go really well with just about any protein, but I love to serve bell peppers with chicken and beef the most. While bell peppers are pretty darn good on their own, they are even better when cooked with lime, red pepper, and butter!

When cooking the bell peppers on the Ninja Foodi Grill, they will start to slide down the grill and start to fall into the grease collector, but don't worry! It's ok for that to happen with this recipe.

The peppers still cook wonderfully and the ones that do slide down into the grease collector end up even more flavorful than the other peppers that stay on the griddle itself. The extra lime butter drips into the grease collector and fully coats the peppers. Yummm!

Don't worry...there's no "grease" that gets collected in this recipe so the peppers are not going to be sitting in any actual grease.

Tips for making Ninja Foodi Grill Red Pepper Lime Bell Peppers

How do you cut bell peppers for the grill?

Wash the peppers and then cut off the stems. Do so by cutting into the top of the pepper in a circle around the stem. Discard the stem. Cut a slit down all the way down the side of the pepper.

Pull the inner section with the seeds out of the pepper. This inner portion should detach from the outside of the pepper fairly easily. Discard seeds and inner section. Lay the pepper flat on a cutting board (you may have to open the pepper up a bit more to do so), with the outside of the pepper facing the cutting board.

Using a sharp knife, cut ½ inch thick strips from the top to the bottom of the pepper. You should end up with pretty evenly sized ½ thick slices of pepper.

What's the difference between the different colors of bell peppers?

If you allow a green pepper to continue to ripe, it will turn yellow and then orange and then red. While this will happen naturally on its own, some peppers are grown to be a certain color.
Green peppers have a more bitter flavor. Yellow peppers are sweeter than green. Orange is sweeter than yellow. And red is the sweetest of them all.

How do you know when bell peppers are fully cooked?

As peppers cook, they become more tender and start to become a bit translucent and darker in color. Cook peppers based on your own personal preference. Sometimes you want a little bit of a crunch and other times you want a more tender texture. The longer they cook, the softer they will be.

Can I eat the seeds from bell peppers?

Technically, yes. You can eat bell pepper seeds. Bell peppers are not poisonous or toxic to humans. However, bell pepper seeds don't have a good flavor and likely will not add to the flavor of the dish in any way. I always prefer to remove the seeds before cooking. However, if one little seed makes its way into your dish, it will still be safe to eat.

    Can I freeze bell peppers?

Yes! You can! I freeze bell peppers all the time. I would recommend washing, removing the stem and seeds, and slicing or dicing the peppers before freezing. Whenever you have extra peppers from a recipe or one that you are not going to eat before it becomes too ripe, slice it up and put it in a freezer bag or airtight container. Peppers can be frozen for several months.
***Frozen peppers are best if used in cooked dishes as they will not be crisp once frozen and then thawed.

Ingredient substitutions and tips for making Ninja Foodi Grill Red Pepper Lime Bell Peppers

The full ingredient list is found at the bottom of the post in the recipe card.

    Avocado Oil-
Use a NON-AEROSOL oil to spray on the grill. Other types of oil can be used, but I use avocado oil because it does not have any flavor and does not smoke on the grill.

    Garlic-
Minced- fresh or jarred can be used. Adjust the amount based on your own preference.

    Lime Juice-
Fresh or packaged can be used.

    Butter-
I use salted butter but you can use your favorite butter or butter substitute.

    Red Pepper Flakes-
A little goes a long way. Adjust the amount based on your own preference. Can be omitted if you prefer.

    Bell Peppers-
Large bell peppers. Any color can be used. I used one of each; orange, yellow, green, and red.
