If you love a fresh, sweet watermelon as much as I do, then you have to try this Ninja Creami watermelon sorbet. It is made with just one single ingredient, fresh watermelon, and it comes out smooth, creamy, and packed with that sweet, juicy watermelon flavor that just screams summer. No added sugar, no dairy, no fuss. Just watermelon. That’s it!
This recipe comes in at 91 calories, 2 grams of protein, 19 grams of sugar, 5 grams of fat, and 23 carbs for the ENTIRE pint. See the recipe card at the bottom of the post for all nutrition facts.

What makes this ninja creami watermelon sorbet recipe so special is the texture. Watermelon has a really high water content, which means that if you try to freeze it and eat it like a popsicle, you end up with a big icy chunk. But when you run it through the Ninja Creami ice cream maker, something like magic happens. The machine breaks down all of those ice crystals and turns that frozen watermelon into a silky smooth sorbet that you would never believe was made from just one ingredient. It really is that good.
The best part about this recipe, other than the taste, is how simple it is. You just blend your fresh watermelon, pour it into the Ninja Creami pint container up to the max fill line, freeze it, and let the machine do all the work using the sorbet function. There is no cooking, no mixing a bunch of simple ingredients together, and no wondering if you did something wrong. If you have a watermelon and a Ninja Creami machine, you can make this. It really is that easy.

Let’s talk about picking the right watermelon for this recipe, because it really does make a difference! Since fresh watermelon is the only ingredient, you want to make sure you are starting with a good one. Look for a watermelon that feels heavy for its size, has a creamy yellow spot on the bottom where it was sitting on the ground, and sounds hollow when you tap on it. Those are all signs that you have a sweet, ripe watermelon with plenty of natural sweetness on your hands. A bland watermelon is going to give you a bland sorbet, so it is worth taking an extra minute at the store to pick a good one!

If you want to take this watermelon sorbet to the next level, try adding some mix-ins after the first spin! A few cubes of fresh watermelon are always a great choice to add even more fresh watermelon flavor and a little texture. You could also try adding a squeeze of fresh lime juice before freezing to give it a little citrus kick, or even small pieces of fresh fruit like strawberries, cantaloupe, or honeydew. But honestly, it is so good on its own that you might not even want to change a thing. This is truly the perfect treat for using up leftover watermelon too!

Tips for making Ninja Creami Watermelon Sorbet
Be sure to blend the watermelon before adding it to the Ninja Creami pint. You want to make sure that the mixture is consistent throughout and there are no gaps between the chunks of watermelon. If there are gaps, the Ninja Creami will have a difficult time processing it and it could damage the machine. Blending, helps make the mixture consistent with no gaps.
Buy seedless watermelon! While you can eat the seeds, most prefer not to. If there are seeds, the blender does not do a very good job of fully breaking them down and you will end up with small pieces of seeds in the finished product.
Freeze immediately after adding the mixture to the Ninja Creami pint. Since watermelon is made up of mostly water, it separates in the container very quickly. You DO NOT want there to be a layer of water and a layer of watermelon pulp. You want a combined mixture so that the machine is not processing ice.
The riper the better! A super sweet, ripe watermelon is going to give you a much better-tasting sorbet than a watermelon that is bland or under-ripe. Since watermelon is the only ingredient, the flavor of your sorbet is completely dependent on the quality of the watermelon you use. If the watermelon you cut into is not that sweet, you can blend in a little honey or sugar before freezing to help boost the flavor.
Yes! If you have the Ninja Swirl, you can turn this into soft serve watermelon sorbet. Select the soft serve option and press the SORBET button. Once it finishes processing, move the container to the swirl side of the machine and dispense. It is such a fun way to serve it, especially if you are making it for kids!

Ingredient tips and substitutions
The full ingredient list is at the bottom of this post in the recipe card.

- Watermelon- Since watermelon is the only ingredient in this recipe, there is really no substituting it! Without the watermelon, you just don’t have a recipe. However, if fresh watermelon is not available, you can try using frozen watermelon chunks instead. Just make sure they are thawed and blended before pouring into the pint container and freezing. Keep in mind that fresh, ripe watermelon is always going to give you the best flavor and the smoothest texture, so use fresh whenever you can!
Directions for Making the Ice Cream Mixture
- Pour the watermelon into a small blender and blend together until combined. Pour the mixture into the Ninja Creami pint container. If you prefer your sorbet a little sweeter, add 1 tablespoon of sugar.
- Freeze IMMEDIATELY on a level surface for 24 hours. If you don't freeze immediately, the watermelon will separate in the container. Your freezer should be between 9 and -7 degrees Fahrenheit. To avoid getting a bump on the top of the frozen mixture, freeze with the lid off of the container.

Directions for Processing the Ice Cream Mixture
- After 24 hours, remove the pint container from the freezer.
- Place the pint container into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami and then process on “SORBET.”
- If the sorbet is dry or crumbly looking (like sand), pour in a tablespoon or two of milk or water and then re-spin. You may have to repeat this process a couple of times.
- Remove the pint from the machine and enjoy!

How to Get Rid of Ice on the Outside of Ninja Creami Ice Cream
Sometimes a layer of ice forms around the inside walls of the Ninja Creami container during freezing, sitting between the outer edge of the frozen base and the container. If that ice gets mixed into the ice cream when you process it, it can affect the texture and make it icier than it should be. Here’s how to fix it so that the ice cream is creamy instead of icy. Why does ice form around the outside of the frozen base? When the base freezes, moisture from condensation or from the base itself can collect between the frozen mixture and […]

When to Use Re-Spin vs. Processing on Ice Cream Again in Ninja Creami
Re-Spin and the Ice Cream function on the Ninja Creami are not interchangeable. Using the wrong one at the wrong time will not give you the result you’re looking for and can even damage your machine. Here’s exactly when to use each one. What is the difference between Re-Spin and processing on Ice Cream? Ice Cream (and other processing functions) are designed to process a frozen solid base. Re-Spin is designed to further smooth a base that has just been processed, but came out with a texture that isn’t quite right. They are two different functions for two different situations. […]

What remains is concentrated peanut butter flavor with significantly less fat, fewer calories, and less sugar than regular peanut butter. It has the same nutty, roasted peanut […]
