Can You Use Generic or Knock-Off Ninja Creami Containers?

This question comes up constantly in the Ninja Creami community. Can you use generic or knock-off containers? Here’s the honest answer, along with what I found when I actually measured them myself and where to find the real ones.

Can you use generic or knock-off Ninja Creami containers?

Technically, yes. Generic containers CAN work. But they can also cause the containers to get scratched, or cause the machine to malfunction. And using non-Ninja approved accessories can void your warranty. So yes, you can use knock-offs. But at your own risk.

Many people swear that their Temu or Amazon third-party containers work beautifully in the Ninja Creami. And that may be true. The problem is that there are probably 100’s of versions/brands of knock off containers, and you never know what you are going to get. There’s just as many people raving about how great the knock-offs are as there are people complaining that they had issues with the knock-offs.

If you want to save a few bucks, buy the knock-offs…just do so at your own risk.

What I Found When I Measured Them

I accidentally ended up with some generic containers and decided to actually measure them and compare them to the official Ninja containers. The weight, the thickness of the plastic, and the divots in the bottom were not exactly the same as the real ones.

The divots at the bottom of the container are not just a design detail. They help keep the container locked in the outer bowl when the machine is processing. Some generic containers don’t even have divots at all. If the divots are missing, the wrong size, or in the wrong position, the container can shift during processing, which is a problem.

If the material, measurements, or divots are not exactly right, there is a higher chance the machine won’t function properly. You could end up damaging the containers, the machine, or both. After measuring them myself, I chose not to use them.

I do NOT recommend using knock-offs. The machine is too expensive and there are too many things that can go wrong if the wrong containers are used. Ninja makes specific containers to go with each machine for a reason. I’d rather be safe than sorry just to save a few bucks.

What Can Go Wrong with Generic Containers

The Ninja Creami is a precision machine. The containers are designed to work with it specifically. When you introduce a container that is even slightly off in any size or shape, the risk of something going wrong goes up. If you use a container that is not specifically meant to go with the machine, you can have issues.

The container can shift or spin during processing. The divots at the bottom of the container lock it into the outer bowl and keep it from moving while the machine is running. If the divots are the wrong size, wrong depth, or missing entirely, the container can shift or spin during processing. If this happens, you can damage the container, or even worse, damage the machine.
The paddle can scrape or damage the container. The Creamerizer paddle is designed to process the base with a very specific clearance between the paddle and the inside of the container. If the generic container is even slightly thicker or shaped differently than the official one, the paddle can scrape against the inside wall. Over time that damages both the container and potentially the paddle.
The processing lid may not fit correctly. If the diameter or the lip of the generic container is slightly off, the processing lid may not lock on properly.
The plastic may not hold up at various temperatures. The official Ninja containers are made from materials rated for freezer temperatures and for the stress of the processing cycle. Generic containers may use a different grade of plastic that becomes brittle at freezer temperatures, which could cause cracking during processing. Many people microwave the containers, put the containers under warm water, or wash them in the dishwasher. The official Ninja containers are made to handle the warmer temperatures; generics may not.
You could damage the machine itself. A container that doesn’t fit perfectly puts stress on the machine’s motor, the outer bowl, and the paddle.
Using generic containers can void your warranty. If your machine malfunctions while using non-Ninja approved accessories and you need to make a warranty claim, Ninja may deny the claim. You lose your warranty protection on a machine you paid good money for.
