Sometimes, the outer bowl can get stuck on the machine and it is very difficult, and sometimes impossible, to get out of the machine.
Reasons why this may happen…
There are various reasons that this can happen, none that have been confirmed by the manufacturer.
- The most common reason that the outer bowl gets stuck on the base of the machine is that it was turned to the left, instead of to the right, when it was inserted into the machine. Once you have turned it to the left, it’s nearly impossible to get it off of the machine. The other bowl can also get stuck in the machine during or after processing ice cream. Usually, the spindle is still extended into the bowl.
- It has become more common lately for the ice cream to finish processing, and then, when it’s ready to be removed from the machine, the outer bowl comes off the machine, but the lid gets stuck to the spindle area of the machine. It’s possible that the spindle has almost frozen to the lid or the lid/machine is malfunctioning and not fully releasing the lid as expected, making it difficult to remove the lid.
How to resolve the issue…
- Unplug the machine for 10-15 minutes and see if the machine resets on it’s own. Sometimes the spindle will retract inside of the machine, allowing you to release the outer bowl.
