If you love birthday cake-flavored anything, this Ninja Creami low-calorie birthday cake ice cream is about to become your new favorite treat. It gets that classic birthday cake flavor from Lorann’s cake batter flavor oil, no actual cake or cake mix needed. It’s thick, creamy, and tastes like a slice of birthday cake in ice cream form.
This recipe comes in at 292 calories, 12 grams of protein, 17 grams of sugar, 11 grams of fat, 81 carbs, 33 net carbs (total carbs-allulose carbs) for the ENTIRE pint. See the recipe card at the bottom of the post for all nutrition facts.

Birthday cake ice cream sounds better than it usually tastes. Most versions from the store are loaded with sugar and still taste like plain vanilla with a few sprinkles mixed in. This recipe gets real birthday cake flavor from one ingredient, without piling on the sugar or calories to do it.
The whole flavor here comes from Lorann’s cake batter flavor oil. A lot of copycat recipes use actual cake mix or cake batter, but that means extra calories and, if you’re using raw batter, an extra food safety step. Half a teaspoon of the flavor oil gets you the same birthday cake taste without either problem.

The instant pudding mix is what makes the texture work here. It acts as a thickener, so the ice cream turns out thick and scoopable instead of soft or melty. You get that creamy texture without needing extra fat or sugar to get there.

Your freezer should sit somewhere between 9 and negative 7 degrees Fahrenheit for this recipe to turn out right. Twenty four hours is a good starting point, but if your freezer runs colder, you might get away with less time. Just make sure the mixture is completely solid before you process it, not just frozen looking on top.

If you’re craving that birthday cake flavor without making an entire cake, this ice cream gets you there. It has all the nostalgic flavor of a vanilla birthday cake with frosting, in a lighter, scoopable form. Whether it’s an actual birthday or you just want something that feels a little celebratory, this one fits the bill.
Tips for making Ninja Creami Low Calorie Birthday Cake Ice Cream
While some cake batter recipes use actual cake batter or cake, this recipe uses neither. Cake batter and cake both have extra calories that I was trying to avoid. Also, if using cake batter there are a couple of extra steps that need to be taken to make it safe to eat. By using Lorann's cake batter flavor oil, you're able to get a great cake batter flavor without the additional calories or steps. The Lorann's cake batter flavor oil can be found at most craft stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby or online on Amazon or lorannoils.com.
It basically tastes like a vanilla birthday cake with vanilla frosting. The flavor isn't overwhelming but it definitely tastes like cake.
The Ninja Creami is made to process frozen solid containers of ice cream mixtures straight out of the freezer. If you are using the proper ingredients and following the instruction for the machine, you should not need to thaw the ice cream.
Not really, it’s what gives this recipe its birthday cake flavor. Vanilla extract will work in a pinch, but you’ll lose the cake batter taste and end up with a plain vanilla ice cream instead.
Allulose is only partially metabolized by your body, so the calories come in lower than the carb count would suggest. It also measures 1:1 with sugar, so there’s no extra math when you use it in this recipe.

Ingredient tips and substitutions
The full ingredient list is at the bottom of this post in the recipe card.

- 2% Milk: Any milk works here. The higher the fat content, the creamier your ice cream will turn out.
- Allulose Granular Sugar Substitute: Use your favorite granulated sugar substitute or regular sugar in a 1:1 ratio.
- Sugar-Free Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix: Use instant pudding mix, not cook and serve or premade, since it’s what thickens the ice cream base. Regular sugared instant pudding works fine too.
- Lorann’s Cake Batter Flavor Oil: This is what gives the ice cream its birthday cake flavor, and it can be found at craft stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby or online.
Directions for Making the Ice Cream Mixture

- Pour the milk, allulose, pudding mix, and cake batter flavor oil into a small blender and blend until all ingredients are fully combined. Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami container.
- Freeze on a level surface for 24 hours. Your freezer should be between 9 and -7 degrees Fahrenheit.
Directions for Processing the Ice Cream Mixture

- After 24 hours, remove the Ninja Creami container from the freezer. If there is a large bump in the ice cream, melt or scrape the large bump so that the top is level.
- Place the Ninja Creami container into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami and then process on “ICE CREAM.”
- If the ice cream is dry or crumbly looking (like sand), pour in a tablespoon or two of milk and then re-spin. If the ice cream looks more like little balls of ice cream, re-spin without adding liquid. You may have to respin a couple of times.
