Peanut butter is one of the flavors I return to most for the Ninja Creami, and this list rounds up every version I have made so far. A few keep it simple with banana or protein powder added in, others layer on chocolate, and one swaps in a dairy free base entirely.

Why Peanut Butter Works So Well in the Ninja Creami
Peanut butter has enough fat in it to help keep a frozen base creamy instead of icy, which is part of why it shows up in so many different versions here. If you want to cut back on fat and calories, you can even use peanut butter powder. Whether you are using peanut butter or peanut butter powder, it works really well in different bases, whether the rest of the mix is dairy, dairy-free, or built around a scoop of protein powder.
How I Keep the Peanut Butter Flavor Consistent Throughout
- Add the peanut butter to the base recipe, and blend it together with the other ingredients before freezing. I find that if you blend the peanut butter with the other ingredients, the flavor gets evenly distributed in the finished product.
- Use peanut butter powder. If you are looking to cut back on calories or fat, you can use peanut butter powder instead of regular peanut butter. If the recipe calls for peanut butter and not peanut butter powder, just follow the instructions on the peanut butter powder (usually adding water) before adding it to the recipe.
- Freeze the ice cream for 24 hours before processing. It’s tempting to process the ice cream when it looks frozen. But, if you process it before its totally frozen thorughout, the ice cream can end up very soft or icy.
Mix-In Ideas Beyond What’s Already in This List
These recipes leave room for extra mix-ins if you want to build on the peanut butter base. A few ideas that work well:
- Chopped peanut butter cups, added after processing so they keep their shape instead of getting pulverized into the base.
- Roasted peanuts, added the same way, for extra texture in every bite.
- Mini chocolate chips, for a chocolate peanut butter version without building the chocolate into the base itself.
- An extra ribbon of peanut butter, added during the mix-in cycle. Freeze the peanut butter in ribbons and then add as a mix-in.
What connects these recipes is a shared peanut butter base run through the Ninja Creami, even though each one takes a different path from there. Some stick to a dairy base, one is fully plant based, and a couple add extra protein with either a protein shake or protein powder.
If chocolate is what you are after, the Ninja Creami Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream and the Ninja Creami Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Protein Ice Cream both add it into the mix in different ways. The Ninja Creami Vegan Peanut Butter Gelato is the one to reach for if dairy free is the goal.
The Ninja Creami Peanut Butter Protein Ice Cream and the Ninja Creami Peanut Butter Cup Protein Ice Cream both use protein powder without a chocolate layer, while the Ninja Creami Peanut Butter Banana Ice cream keeps things simple with just banana added in.
Top Tips
- Freeze the base a full 24 hours before processing. The ice cream needs to be frozen solid before processing. It should be frozen solid…it should not be soft. If you process the ice cream before it is frozen solid throughout, it will end up soft or icy.
- You cannot get a true peanut butter swirl in the finished ice cream. Peanut butter will not stay as a swirl if you add it during the mix-in cycle. It will mix in completely with the base. The only way to get anything even close to a swirl is to take the peanut butter and freeze it in ribbons, separetely. Once it’s completely frozen, you can add it in during the mix-in cycle. You will end up with small ribbons throughout.
- Add extra peanut butter or candy pieces during the mix-in cycle. Stirring chopped peanut butter cups, pretzels, or extra peanut butter in after the first spin keeps them intact.
- Sweeten the base a little more than you think you should. Cold temperatures dull sweetness, so a mix that tastes balanced warm can taste less sweet once it is fully frozen.
- Add a small splash of liquid if the texture looks dry after spinning. If the ice cream looks dry or crumbly after processing, add a splash of liquid and re-spin. Don’t add too much, though. If you do, the ice cream will be more like soft-serve.

Can You Use Generic or Knock-Off Ninja Creami Containers?
This question comes up constantly in the Ninja Creami community. Can you use generic or knock-off containers? Here’s the honest answer, along with what I found when I actually measured them myself and where to find the real ones. Can you use generic or knock-off Ninja Creami containers? Technically, yes. Generic containers CAN work. But they can also cause the containers to get scratched, or cause the machine to malfunction. And using non-Ninja approved accessories can void your warranty. So yes, you can use knock-offs. But at your own risk. Many people swear that their Temu or Amazon third-party containers […]
