You can turn just about anything into the perfect treat with a creamy texture using the Ninja Creami ice cream machine. This is one of those Ninja Creami recipes that makes you go…huh? How is it possible that strawberry lemonade turns into such a thick and creamy sherbet? Well, It does…and it’s amazing!
What makes this recipe sherbet and not sorbet? Sorbet is usually just fresh fruit and no dairy. Although, you can make some pretty amazing sorbet without using any fruit at all! If you are looking for a unique Ninja Creami sorbet recipe, check out my recipes for espresso sorbet and chocolate sorbet.
Sherbet is usually a fruit flavor with dairy in it. The dairy can be milk, condensed milk, cottage cheese, etc. So, the result is a creamy dessert with fruit flavors. The most common sherbet flavors are orange sherbet, lime sherbet, lemon sherbet, and one of my favorites…watermelon sherbet.

One of the most common questions about the Ninja Creami machine is if you can use frozen fruit to make frozen treats. The answer is yes, but it depends on how you are using the frozen fruit. For this recipe, I used fresh strawberries. But, you could very easily use frozen strawberries. You will need to thaw the frozen strawberries before adding them as mix-ins. The machine cannot handle processing frozen chunks of anything unless they are frozen into the base mixture and then processed.
To use frozen fruit, do one of the following:
- Add the frozen fruit to liquid (not water), cottage cheese, or yogurt and mix well so that the fruit is distributed throughout the mixture. Make sure there are no gaps of air between the chunks of frozen fruit.
- Thaw the fruit and add it to a base recipe before freezing. You can blend the thawed fruit with the base recipe and then pour it into a Ninja Creami container, freeze, and then process. Although, blending isn’t always necessary.
- Thaw and blend frozen fruit, pour into a Ninja Creami container, freeze, and process.
One important thing to note in this recipe is the order in which the ingredients are added. It’s VERY important to follow the steps in the recipe. Otherwise, you will end up with curdled milk. I know from experience. During the testing of this recipe, I had a lot of curdled milk. Through trial and error, I found a method that worked great and there’s no curdled milk!
Tips for making Ninja Creami Strawberry Lemonade Sherbet (Low-Calorie)
The mixture for this recipe has to be blended twice because if you add all of the ingredients at the same time, the milk will curdle when you add the lemonade. Blending all of the base ingredients except the lemonade first, and then adding the lemonade and blending again prevents the mixture from curdling.
Yes, you can use frozen strawberries but you should thaw them before adding them to the rest of the base ingredients. If you don't thaw them, they will not mix together with the other base ingredients very well.
Yes, you can use any bottled strawberry lemonade that you would like. Just be mindful that changing the lemonade will also change the nutritional value for the recipe.
You can make sherbet dairy free by using a milk alternative instead of cow’s milk in the recipe. However, most milk alternatives are lower in fat than cow’s milk. The lower the fat, the more likely it is that the sherbet will be icy and less creamy.
No, they are not the same. Sherbet has dairy in it and sorbet does not.

Ingredient tips and substitutions for making Ninja Creami Strawberry Lemonade Sherbet:
The full ingredient list is at the bottom of this post in the recipe card.
- Whole Milk-You can use a higher fat milk like half and half or a milk mixed with heavy cream. This is a very low calorie and low fat sherbet and if you reduce the fat or calories even more, it’s more likely that the sherbet will be icy and less creamy.
- Fresh Strawberries 5-6 Medium Strawberries-Frozen strawberries can be used, but you’ll need to thaw them before adding to the recipe.
- Allulose Granular Sugar Substitute-Regular sugar or another sugar substitute/sweetener can be used as long as it’s a 1:1 ratio with sugar. Monk fruit, Stevia, Swerve, or any other powdered sweetener can be used.
- Guar Gum-An equal amount of xanthan gum can be used instead of guar gum. If you don’t have guar gum or xanthan gum, I would recommend using 2-3 tablespoons of strawberry flavored yogurt. You could also use cottage cheese, cream cheese, or pudding mix, but all three of these will change the flavor quite a bit.
- Zero Sugar Strawberry Lemonade Minute Maid-If you are not worried about the calories or sugar of the recipe, you can use any premade strawberry lemonade that you would like, with or without sugar in it.
Directions for Making the Ice Cream Mixture
- Pour the milk, strawberries, allulose, and guar gum into a small blender and blend until all ingredients are fully combined. Add the strawberry lemonade and blend again (If you add the lemonade at the same time as the other ingredients, the milk will curdle). Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami container.
- Freeze on a level surface for 24 hours. Your freezer should be between 9 and -7 degrees Fahrenheit.
Directions for Processing the Ice Cream Mixture
- After 24 hours, remove the Ninja Creami container from the freezer. If there is a large bump in the sherbet, melt or scrape the large bump so that the top is level.
- Place the Ninja Creami pint container into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami and then process on “SORBET.”
- If the sherbet is dry or crumbly looking (like sand), pour in a tablespoon or two of milk and then re-spin (push the re-spin button). If the sherbet looks more like little balls of ice cream, re-spin without adding liquid. You may have to respin a couple of times.

Everyone knows that it’s recommended to freeze your Ninja Creami base for 24 hours before processing. But does it need to be frozen for exactly 24 hours?
