What to do if the Ninja Creami paddle falls off the spindle while the machine is running?

This is one of the most common troubleshooting issues with the Ninja Creami.

Sometimes the paddle will disconnect from the spindle while the machine is processing.

Reasons why this may happen…

There are various reasons that this can happen, none that have been confirmed by the manufacturer.

The paddle has a tiny magnet on the tip. If the magnet gets demagnetized, it will not stay connected to the paddle as expected, causing the paddle to fall off when processing ice cream.
The paddle is not attached to the spindle 100% correctly (the magnet may no longer be strong enough to hold the paddle on strongly enough while processing the ice cream).
If the top of the frozen mixture is not level, it could cause the paddle to be off balance, causing it to disconnect from the spindle while processing.
If the spindle is dirty or has ice cream buildup on the end of it, the spindle might have a hard time properly attaching to the paddle.
You are not using the proper ingredients in your mixture. Most Ninja Creami mixtures need to have some sugar, fat, dairy, or thickeners added. The machine cannot process ice (just water). It’s not recommended to use anything that is close to just water. You can use some water in your mixture, but it’s recommended to add sugar, fat, dairy, or thickeners like guar gum so that it’s easier on the machine.
Using generic or knock-off accessories like paddles can cause the machine to malfunction if the accessory is not a perfect fit.

How to resolve the issue…

Review the manual to make sure that you have assembled everything correctly.
Thoroughly clean the spindle/rod that connects to the paddle (the end that looks like a drill bit). Use a damp cloth, cleaning wipe, toothbrush, or napkin, and remove any ice cream buildup that may be there. Clean the spindle/rod after every use to avoid future buildup.
Use Ninja-branded accessories like paddles and containers instead of generic or knockoffs.
Check your recipe and make sure that it has some sugar, fat, dairy, or thickener. If it’s just water, or close to it, the machine will struggle to process.
Some have bought tiny magnets and replaced the magnet on the end of the spindle/rod. If your machine is out of warranty and you want to try this, do so at your own risk as there’s no guarantee that it will work and no solid information on exactly what magnet you should buy or use. If your machine is still under warranty, don’t mess with the magnet, as doing so will likely void the warranty.

It seems like if the blade/paddle comes off once, the problem continues to happen. This may be due to the magnet that connects the blade to the rod being damaged or the rod being slightly bent (even if you can’t see that it’s bent). These things might happen if the rod has “drilled” down into the blade at some point.

If you continue to use the machine and the paddle continues to not connect to the spindle properly, the spindle part of the machine can end up “drilling” down into the paddle that has fallen off and can damage the machine, damage the spindle, or, in some extreme cases, overheat and cause so much friction that the machine can start to smoke or even catch on fire.

Continuing to use the machine when the blade has fallen out could cause bigger problems. You should call Ninja directly to resolve this issue.

Do not buy a new paddle without first contacting Ninja, as the paddle may not be the issue.
