Making frozen yogurt in the Ninja Creami machine is pretty easy and you don’t need a ton of ingredients. My recipe for vanilla frozen yogurt is made with only five ingredients. By using 2% milk and zero-sugar yogurt, you get a light yet creamy base that's not icy. The allulose sugar substitute helps keep the frozen yogurt sweet, without adding unnecessary calories, and the vanilla bean paste adds a ton of vanilla flavor. It's the best of both worlds, creamy and delicious while also being low in calories.
This recipe uses zero-sugar vanilla Greek yogurt, which gives the frozen yogurt a creamy texture and a rich, vanilla flavor without the extra calories. However, if you prefer, you can swap it for other types of yogurt, but keep in mind that the nutritional information will change. For example, using regular Greek yogurt or a different flavored version can add extra sugar and calories.
A lot of times, when people make frozen yogurt at home, they complain that it doesn’t taste like the frozen yogurt that they get at the ice cream shops. The kind you buy usually tastes much sweeter than the frozen yogurt you make at home. That can be because of the amount of sweetener used or the kind of yogurt that is being used. If you want to make the frozen yogurt taste more like the kind you get at the yogurt shop, you’ll need to add more sweetener, and you’ll need to make sure you are using a yogurt that you actually like the taste of. If the yogurt is tangy, it’s going to create a tangy frozen yogurt.

Tips for making Ninja Creami Low Calorie Vanilla Frozen Yogurt:
Yes, you can use zero sugar yogurt to make frozen yogurt. However, Ninja does not recommend using ONLY sugar-free or fat free yogurt. For this recipe we are adding several ingredients like milk, guar gum, and vanilla bean paste that will make it easier for the Ninja Creami to process the yogurt.
Low calorie frozen yogurt is a little tangy and a little sweet. If you would like it tangier, add less allulose. If you like it sweeter, add more allulose. Taste the mixture before freezing and adjust as needed.
You can switch it up and use yogurt that is already flavored, like strawberry, blueberry, or key lime pie. There are endless flavors of yogurt available. Just keep in mind that if you change the yogurt used, the nutritional information will also change.
Fresh fruit like fresh strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries would go well with the vanilla flavor. You can chop some dark chocolate or add mini chocolate chips. If you want a little crunch, try adding in granola, cookies (even Oreo cookies), or nuts like pecans or almonds.
I always recommend that you freeze your Ninja Creami creations for 24 hours to make sure it’s frozen solid all the way through. If you process it and it’s not fully frozen, the results can be icy and soft.
A lot of people thaw their creations before processing because they think it’s too hard when it’s frozen solid. But, the machine was made to process frozen solid creations (assuming you use proper ingredients and proper settings on the machine).

Ingredient tips and substitutions for making Ninja Creami Low Calorie Vanilla Frozen Yogurt:
The full ingredient list is at the bottom of this post in the recipe card.
- Milk-2% milk was used. But, you can use a higher fat milk if you would like. If you use a lower fat milk or dairy alternative, the results may be less creamy.
- Yogurt-To keep the calories and sugar, a zero sugar Greek yogurt was used. If you don’t like Greek yogurt, you can use a different kind of yogurt. Use one that you actually like the taste of. If it’s tangy when it’s not frozen, it’s going to be tangy when it is frozen.
- Vanilla Bean Paste-I prefer to use vanilla bean paste instead of vanilla extract. But if you prefer, you can use the extract. You can even use a different flavored extract, like almond, peppermint, orange, or coffee.
- Allulose Granular Sugar Substitute- Feel free to use your preferred sugar substitute as long as it’s a 1:1 ratio with sugar. Monk fruit, Stevia, or Splenda are popular options. You can use real sugar instead, if you prefer.
- Guar Gum- If you don’t have guar gum, you can use xanthan gum.
Directions for Making the Ice Cream Mixture
- Pour the milk, yogurt, vanilla bean paste, allulose, and guar gum into a small blender and blend until all ingredients are fully combined. Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container.
- Freeze on a level surface for 24 hours. Your freezer should be between 9 and -7 degrees Fahrenheit.
Directions for Processing the Ice Cream Mixture
- After 24 hours, remove the Ninja Creami container from the freezer. If there is a large bump in the yogurt, melt or scrape the large bump so that the top is level.
- Place the Ninja Creami container into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami and then process on “ICE CREAM.”
- If the frozen yogurt is dry or crumbly looking (like sand), pour in a tablespoon or two of milk and then re-spin. If the frozen yogurt looks more like little balls of ice cream, re-spin without adding liquid. You may have to respin a couple of times.

Recipes that use allulose:
Allulose is a low calorie sweetener that your body doesn't fully digest, so it provides only 0.4 calories per gram instead of 4. That's why the calorie total doesn't match what you'd expect from the carb count. Calories from allulose are calculated based on metabolized carbohydrates. Allulose contributes fewer calories than standard carbohydrates.

If you’ve been using vanilla extract in your Ninja Creami recipes and want to take the vanilla flavor up a notch, vanilla bean paste is the upgrade. Same effort, noticeably better results. It contains the actual seeds scraped from inside vanilla bean pods, which is where the most intense vanilla flavor lives. When you use it in ice cream, you get those tiny black vanilla bean specks throughout the pint, along with a deeper, richer vanilla flavor […]
