The reason I call this SUPER strawberry is because it has real strawberry flavor from four different places. You get it from the strawberry protein shake, fresh strawberries blended right into the base, and strawberry extract, and strawberry Jell-O mix. Most Ninja Creami strawberry ice cream recipes only use one or two of those, but using all four is what makes this recipe have a ton of strawberry flavor.
The sugar-free strawberry Jell-O mix is the secret ingredient that takes this recipe to another level. It adds a ton of strawberry flavor AND a beautiful bright pink color without adding extra calories or sugar. Make sure to use Jell-O mix and NOT pudding mix. Pudding will not work the same way in this recipe. Regular Jell-O with sugar works fine too if that’s what you have.

Fresh strawberries get blended right into the base for real strawberry flavor that you can taste in every bite. Frozen (thawed) strawberries work too, just make sure they are completely thawed before adding them so they blend smoothly. Don’t skip these even though the recipe already has a strawberry protein shake, because the protein shake flavor dulls after freezing and the fresh strawberries are what really make this taste like real strawberry ice cream.

The protein shake you pick really matters in this Ninja Creami strawberry ice cream recipe. Strawberry protein shakes can be hit or miss, some are really good and some are really bad. Always taste the shake before using it because if you don’t like the flavor of the shake, you aren’t going to like the flavor of the ice cream. I used the strawberries and cream Premier Protein shake for this one.

Let’s talk about mix-in options. If you want to take this Ninja Creami strawberry ice cream up a notch, there are so many mix-ins that would work really well with strawberries. White chocolate chips would be amazing for that classic strawberries and cream flavor. Crumbled graham crackers or shortbread cookies would give you a strawberry shortcake vibe. A spoonful of strawberry jam or even some chopped fresh basil would also be really good if you want to get creative.
Tips for making Ninja Creami Super Strawberry Protein Ice Cream
Technically, yes. You can freeze a strawberry protein shake and it will turn into ice cream, but it likely won’t taste as good as you are expecting. The flavor of the shake dulls after freezing while the taste of the protein shake itself seems to get stronger, so I add in things like real strawberries, strawberry extract, and strawberry Jell-O mix to bring out the flavor I’m looking for.
I used the strawberries and cream Premier Protein shake to make super strawberry protein ice cream. You can use any strawberry-flavored protein shake that you would like, just make sure you like the flavor of the shake before using it to make ice cream.
No, for this recipe, you need to use Jell-O mix and not pudding mix. They are not the same thing and pudding mix will not give you the same strawberry flavor or bright pink color that the Jell-O mix does.
Yes, just make sure to thaw them completely before adding them to the blender or as a mix-in. Fresh strawberries give you the brightest fresh strawberry flavor, but thawed frozen strawberries work great too.
This is really common with Ninja Creami protein ice cream recipes. Just pour in a tablespoon of unsweetened almond milk (or any milk you have on hand) down the center and hit the re-spin button. You may need to repeat this a time or two until the texture is creamy.

- Strawberry Protein Shake: Any of your favorite strawberry protein shakes will work in this recipe, just make sure you like the taste of it first since strawberry shakes can be hit or miss, and if you don’t have a strawberry shake, use the same volume of your milk of choice (whole milk, 2% milk, Fairlife milk, or any dairy-free milk) mixed with strawberry or vanilla protein powder and adjust the flavor and sweetness based on what you use.
- Sugar-Free Strawberry Jell-O Mix: This adds a ton of strawberry flavor and bright pink color, and regular Jell-O with sugar works just as well if you don’t want sugar-free (do NOT use pudding mix in its place since it won’t give you the same flavor or texture).
- Strawberry Extract: This boosts the real strawberry flavor in the ice cream, and if you don’t have it, you can leave it out and just use a little more Jell-O mix.
- Fresh Strawberries: Fresh strawberries give you the best fresh strawberry flavor without any artificial flavors, and frozen (thawed) strawberries work too as long as they are completely thawed before blending.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk (Optional): This only gets used if the ice cream looks like sand after the first spin, and any dairy or dairy-free milk works in its place like whole milk, 2% milk, heavy cream, coconut milk, oat milk, cashew milk, or Fairlife milk (the higher the fat content, the creamier the texture).
Directions for Making the Ice Cream Mixture

- Pour the protein shake, Jello mix, strawberry extract, and strawberries into a small blender and blend together until the Jello mix is completely combined with the liquids. Pour the mixture into the Ninja Creami pint container.
- Freeze on a level surface for 24 hours. Your freezer should be between 9 and -7 degrees Fahrenheit. To avoid getting a bump on the top of the frozen mixture, freeze with the lid off of the container.
Directions for Processing the Ice Cream Mixture

- After 24 hours, remove the pint container from the freezer.
- Place the pint container into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami and then process on “LITE ICE CREAM.”
- If the ice cream is dry or crumbly looking (like sand), pour in a tablespoon or two of unsweetened almond milk and then re-spin. If the ice cream looks like little balls of ice cream, respin without adding liquid. You may have to repeat this process a couple of times.
- Dig a well down the center of the ice cream and pour in the remaining strawberries. Process on mix-ins.
- Remove the pint from the machine and enjoy!

- ½ Cup (72 g) Strawberries (Fresh or frozen (thawed))
Mix-Ins
- ¼ Cup (36 g) Strawberries (Fresh or frozen (thawed) and chopped)
Optional
- 1-2 Tablespoons (1 Tablespoons) Unsweetened Almond Milk
Instructions
Make the Ice Cream
- Pour the protein shake, Jello mix, strawberry extract, and strawberries into a small blender and blend together until the Jello mix is completely combined with the liquids. Pour the mixture into the Ninja Creami pint container.
