For years I have always bought those little packets of chili seasoning from the grocery store. The other day I was making chili and realized…oh no….I don’t have any chili seasoning! Instead of panicking, I looked in the cabinet and realized that I had ALL of the ingredients that come in those little packets.
Why haven’t I been making my own chili seasoning all this time?? It was so incredibly easy to make. I couldn’t believe it. One of the best parts about this recipe is that you can make it in bulk and save it in an airtight container for the next time that you make chili. This is a money saving, quick and easy recipe for all of your future chili needs! I can’t wait to dive in and see what other spice mixes I can come up with!
Tips for making Chili Seasoning
Store in an airtight container or a spice jar. The chili seasoning will stay fresh for as long as the spices that you used would stay fresh. So, if you don’t plan on using all of the chili seasoning right away, be sure to use fresh spices that have a further out expiration date. Many spices are good for a couple of years if stored in a pantry in an airtight container. Older spices start to dull in color or start to clump together.
It depends on how much cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes you put in the seasoning mix. My recipe for chili seasoning is not spicy. I like to add more spice when I make chili by adding jalapenos, spicy beans, and tomatoes with chilis added in. If you like your chili spicy, feel free to add more cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the recipe.

No, but they are quite similar when it comes to the ingredients used in each. Chili seasoning focuses more on chili powder and taco seasoning focuses more on cumin.
Add chili seasoning to grilled chicken or steak, sprinkle on veggies like corn on the cob and broccoli, or sprinkle on top of a loaded baked potato.

- Pour into an airtight container and store in the pantry.
