Your email platform should make your life easier. It shouldn't feel confusing, clunky, or like a full-time job to figure out. If you want beautiful emails that are quick to create and backed by great customer service, Flodesk is the one for you. It's basically the only email tool that hasn't made me want to throw my laptop out the window.
***I am a Flodesk partner but all of the opinions below are mine. I wouldn’t make a post about something that I didn’t actually like enough to recommend.

Email matters. It's one of the best ways to stay connected with your audience, especially if you're a food blogger trying to roll with whatever AI or Google decides to change next. Email gives you a direct line to your readers that no algorithm can mess with. And yes, I'll say it again… email really does matter. If you're not building a list and sending helpful, valuable emails to your readers, you're missing out on one of the easiest ways to connect with the people who actually care about your content.
I've tried a bunch of email platforms over the last seven years, and trust me, not all email platforms are created equal. I can say from personal experience that being stuck with the wrong one can be a costly, time-consuming nightmare. And when something goes wrong, it can be incredibly frustrating to fix. I literally spent months trying to figure out why emails were not sending to my subscribers when they should have been. I was paying a lot of money for a service that wasn’t even sending emails… It was a “glitch” that the company knew about for months but failed to mention, yet continued to take my money. Fixing the issue was VERY time consuming and caused me to look elsewehere.
That’s when I found Flodesk. Flodeskhas been a total lifesaver. The move to Flodesk was pretty easy, didn’t take a lot of time and did not stress me out! There are tons of beautiful, easy-to-use email templates, and if you ever have a question, their customer service is genuinely awesome.
Why I love Flodesk..
- Customer Service: Whenever I can’t figure something out, I email them and they get back to me fast, usually the same day. And an actual person responds (not AI) with information that is super helpful. Flodesk also has a very active Facebook group that can get you answers even faster!
- Templates: Templates are easy to use. You can add as many premade templates to your emails. You literally click a couple of buttons and the template is added.
- Beautiful Emails: Since there are so many templates, you can make beautiful emails in just a few minutes. You don’t have to start from scratch or become a graphic designer overnight. A few clicks and you are good to go! Flodesk wants you to send good looking emails. But, some platforms make it so hard to format things that you either give up and just send a plain Jane email or you don’t send it at all.
- Easy to Use: Some email platforms make it so complicated to write an email that you just give up. That’s not the case with Flodesk. This simple email platform makes it easy enough to write emails so that you actually end up sending them!
- Checkouts: You can sell your own digital products right in your emails with Flodesk. You don’t need a third party tool…it’s built into the Flodesk email system (upgraded plans only).

TIps and Tricks…
Email doesn’t have to be hard or stressful. But, it can be a huge part of your business.
- Send the email! The most costly thing you can do is not send the email. Does it have to be perfect? No…and it probably will never be perfect. And that’s ok! The worst email you can send is the one that you don’t actually send.
- Build a list. Put opt-ins into your blog posts, on your homepage, link to them on social media. The most valuable resource is your email list. Regardless of algorithms or Google nonsense, you’ll always have our list and have a way to reach your audience.
- Create an email template (or several) that you like and replicate it. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time.
- Mix it up. Don’t make all of your emails exactly the same. Some readers prefer image heavy emails while others want a lot of text and info. Change it up so that you can appeal to different parts of your audience.

Things that could make Flodesk even better…
The functionality of Flodesk works great for my business needs. But with just about anything, there’s always room for improvement. Flodesk has a roadmap that shows what’s coming next for them. Below are some things that I would like to see as enhancements.
- Better analytics and reporting. The data is all there but it’s a bit time-consuming to see analytics for each email within a workflow. You need to go into the workflow and click on every email to see it’s performance. I’d like to see this all on one screen.
- Workflow limitations. The recommendation is to have fewer than 15-20 emails in a particular workflow. This makes it a bit challenging if you have a forever series that has 100+ emails. It can be done, but it’s not an ideal setup for this type of workflow.
- To edit an email within a workflow, you need to pause the workflow. Ideally, I’ll like to be edit emails and keep the workflow published.
- Currently, you can not use HTML in the emails. Adding this as a function would be useful.
- Reusable blocks that can be updated in one place and subsequently update all instances of those same blocks. Currently, you can make favorites that can easily be used over and over again. But, if you update the favorite block, it only updates the future instances of the block and not the existing ones.
