Ever since I was a kid, I have loved going to the Olive Garden for soup, salad, and breadsticks. At one point in my life, this was my weekend ritual. Literally, every weekend I found myself at the Olive Garden! I know, I know, I know…..the Olive Garden is not real Italian food. You’re right, it’s not! But, the salad is really good, thanks to the salad dressing! Check out our recipe for Instant Pot Olive Garden Italian Dressing Chicken using this delicious salad dressing!
Imagine my delight when I came across the Olive Garden salad dressing at the grocery store!!!! How could this be?? Yes! Now, I can make my own “Olive Garden” salads at home. :). Before grocery stores sold the Olive Garden Italian salad dressing, I would buy it from the restaurant!
This recipe combines the deliciousness of the Olive Garden Italian salad dressing with boneless skinless chicken breasts. You can really use any type of chicken that you prefer. We mostly eat boneless skinless chicken breasts, so that’s what is used in this recipe.
Once you have prepared the chicken, feel free to serve it with your favorite side dishes. I chose to serve with some pasta and green beans and I poured some of the additional sauce right on top of everything. In all honesty, I thought that this was going to be Italian dressing overload and I was pleasantly surprised that it was not! Not at all!
Tips for this recipe:
1.You can use whatever kind of chicken you prefer. I used boneless skinless chicken breasts but you could use bone-in chicken breasts, chicken thighs, legs, or wings. If you choose to use bone-in chicken breasts or dark meat chicken, you will need to increase the cooking time by a couple of minutes.
2.If you would prefer a milder Italian dressing flavor, you can substitute 1 cup of chicken broth for 1 cup of salad dressing.
3.You can increase the number of chicken breasts to 4 or 5 without needing to increase the amount of salad dressing used in this recipe. Since you need liquid in the Instant Pot to pressure cook the chicken, there tends to be a lot of dressing/cheese sauce leftover. So, if you want to cook more than 2 or 3 chicken breasts, you can do so, without having to increase the amount of liquid in the pot. Just make sure that there is enough liquid in the pot to cover the chicken breasts about halfway.

Ingredients for making Instant Pot Olive Garden Chicken:
- 2-3 Large boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 2 Cups Olive Garden Italian salad dressing
- ⅓ Cup grated parmesan cheese
Directions to make Instant Pot Olive Garden Italian Dressing Chicken:
1.Pour one cup of Olive Garden Italian Dressing into the Instant Pot.
2.Place 2-3 large boneless skinless chicken breasts into the Instant Pot.
3.Mix remaining 1 cup of Olive Garden Italian Dressing with ⅓ cup of grated parmesan cheese.
4.Pour dressing/cheese mixture over chicken breasts.
5.Close lid and move valve to “seal position.” Turn Instant Pot on. Select the “pressure cooker” setting and cook on high for 10 minutes.
6.When timer beeps, allow pressure to natural release for 5 minutes and then quick-release remaining pressure. Remove lid.
7.Serve with your favorite pasta and vegetables!

I made this tonight. The chicken was fully cooked and so juicy. I shredded the chicken and put it back in the juice. Great recipe with simple ingredients.

I have made this a few times and seem to get burn notice 2/3 of the time. Very frustrating. It is like the cheese burns on the bottom of the pot even though we are doing it exactly as stated.

Oh no! I’ve never had it burn before. Are you using grated or shredded parmesan cheese? If you use shredded, it might burn. When you are pouring the dressing and cheese mixture over the chicken, make sure that it mostly stays on top of the chicken and do not stir it around. Let me know if that helps.

Did it exactly as written. Chicken was dry. Did the pressure release as described with a timer.

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear your chicken was dry. I’ve made this several times and not had any problems with the chicken coming out dry. Sometimes, depending on the size of the chicken breasts, the cook time might vary just a little bit. It’s possible that your chicken was smaller than mine. Next time, reduce the pressure cook time by a minute or so if you are using smaller chicken breasts.

Was going to make this tonight. My instant pot wouldn’t come to pressure. When I checked it the bottom was burning. Transfered it to the oven. Will try again another day

Do you think I could throw little red potatoes in with this?

Yes, you will just want to make sure that you choose potatoes that will cook in the same amount of time-10 minutes. Since red potatoes take longer to cook than russet potatoes, you should be ok. But, I would recommend using larger potatoes as the small ones may over cook.

I just wanted to tell you that I love this recipe, and so did the rest of my family of 6! I’ve actually already made it twice for them! After I made the chicken (I did tenders for 6 mins with a 6 min NPR because I’ve had the most success with that cut/ timing), I removed it from the pot then threw in a box of pasta and a little chicken broth just to top off the dressing. The pasta absorbs all that yummy dressing and I toss it with the chicken when it’s done. So, so good (and fast! And easy!) Thanks for a great recipe!

How long did you pressure cook the pasta?

I cooked the pasta separately. When cooking pasta I look at the time on the box and cut that in half and then subtract 2. Depending on what type of pasta you make it will vary.

How much time would you add for frozen chicken breasts?

You don’t need to add any additional time. The pot will just take longer to get up to pressure. They will thaw while the pot reaches pressure and then continue to cook. :). I use frozen chicken all the time and it turns out great!

Would you do the same for Tenderloins? I thought I bought breasts but they are Tenderloins. fingers crossed

Hi Colleen-Yes, you can use tenderloins instead of breasts, it will just need less cooking time since the pieces of chicken are smaller.

I would recommend cutting the pressure cook time in half if you are using thinly sliced chicken breasts.
